Spring Commencement May 7, 2016

More than 1,700 students graduated from Marshall University Saturday, May 7. Most were recognized in a pair of commencement ceremonies at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in downtown Huntington. Visit http://www.marshall.edu/commencement.


Among the 1,703 students who received degrees are 1,032 undergraduates, 500 graduate students, 75 from the School of Pharmacy, 60 students from the School of Medicine, and 36 from the School of Physical Therapy.

Marshall registrar Roberta Ferguson said 471 undergraduate students graduated with honors. Ninety-three graduated summa cum laude (3.85 to 4.0 GPA), 153 magna cum laude (3.6 to 3.84 GPA) and 223 cum laude (3.3 to 3.59 GPA). Two students receiving associate degrees graduated with honors.

Marshall President Jerome Gilbert presided at both ceremonies.

Menis E. Ketchum II, the West Virginia Supreme Court Chief Justice, was the guest speaker during the morning ceremony. Ketchum is a native of Wayne County, having graduated from Vinson High School in 1960, then from Ohio University and next from law school at West Virginia University.
